This is a "Solid Model" of a suitable tractor engine. Created in a three dimensional  CAD package from the original drawing set. Every component was drawn and specified before being processed by a CAM program which then created a CNC file to enable the patterns to be made on a CNC milling machine. In this case the prototype for the IFA Foundations own design of milling machine which is  the basis for all instructional and small industry machines needed for the project. The milling machine and the Software is covered elsewhere in this site.

The engine is known as the Anderson Engine and the drawings were contributed to the project by Tom Kimmel, President of the  Steam Automobile Club of America. It is a 60 HP engine and the baby brother of the engine shown in the car and the aeroplane in the video clip advertising the old Besler Companies developments (here). That 60 HP is at 1500 rpm and that translates to a constant torque of 210 ft/lbs from stationary to 1500 rpm - about 5 times as much torque as the original Volvo engine delivered.

The tractor parts and the engine are being cast in the foundry associated with the IFA Foundation. A photo essay of the engine and tractor construction is being prepared at this time (Dec 2007) and will be shown on these pages when ready. This engine however has now become the "plan B" engine with the more highly developed Pritchard engine the first choice. Rather than halt the development of this engine though - we will simply let the project run and see where it leads.
